Admission procedures

Domestic students
  1. Complete the Chemistry Pre-application Form.

  2. Complete the online graduate school application. Fee waivers are available for domestic students, providing this is the first time an application has been submitted to VCU. The application fee will be paid by the Department of Chemistry once the application is complete.

  3. Submit a one-page personal statement describing your career goals and how a degree in chemistry would help you meet those goals. Include prior work or life experience that relates to your interest in chemistry and any other information that you think will help in the evaluation of your application.

  4. Submit official transcripts (no photocopies) from all colleges and universities attended.

  5. Submit three letters of recommendation. Letters must be in sealed envelopes or sent directly by the person writing the letter to the address listed below.

  6. Submit official General (required) and Subject GRE (optional) scores (no photocopies).

  7. Submit the Application for Virginia In-state Tuition form [PDF].

International students

  2. Complete the International Application for Graduate Admission form.

  3. Submit a one-page personal statement describing your career goals and how a degree in chemistry would help you meet those goals. Include prior work or life experience that relates to your interest in chemistry and any other information that you think will help in the evaluation of your application.

  4. Submit official or officially certified copies of all grade reports for all secondary and higher school studies, as well as original or officially certified copies of all academic diplomas, certificates, and national or other major examination results. Official records must be submitted in the native language and must be accompanied by an official English translation.

  5. Submit three letters of recommendation. Letters must be in sealed envelopes or sent directly by the person writing the letter to the address listed below.

  6. Submit official General (required) and Subject GRE (optional) scores and TOEFL scores (no photocopies).

  7. Submit a Financial Statement.

  8. Include a check or money order in the amount of $50 made payable to Virginia Commonwealth University.
